Made by Hand
A short film series celebrating the people who make things by hand.
-
Made by Hand is a series of short films about makers. Each film aims to promote that which is made locally, sustainably, and with a love for craft. Based in Brooklyn, the project takes its influence from the handmade movement here and elsewhere. Above, the second film on local knife maker Joel Bukiewicz explores the potential for a skill to mature into an art.
Launched in September of 2011, the films have been widely praised. Fast Company hailed the first film’s “gorgeous cinematography and artful design”; while an interview with Bureau of Common Goods’ director, Keith Ehrlich, in The Atlantic noted the series’ attention to “independent, artisanal businesses.” Forthcoming films are planned on a beekeeper, a hand-rolled cigar company, and more.
